The firm scooped the “Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year” award for the second year running, whilst former Senior Partner Paul Morrell was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the construction industry.
The judges paid tribute to Paul's achievements, describing his career as one “spent quietly transforming everything that he’s turned his formidable mind to”.
Davis Langdon was judged against other shortlisted firms on issues such as Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility and Innovation, as well its contribution to projects including The Core, Eden; the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea; Matthew Boulton College, Birmingham and Yehudi Menuhin Memorial Hall School in London.
Commenting on why Davis Langdon was picked as winner of this prestigious award, the judges said:
“A brief tour of the firm’s year gives some idea of what the answer might be. It grew its fee income by 15%, planned to turn its technical staff into sustainability experts, won a place in The Sunday Times’ best companies to work for, rolled out a project delivery framework, planned a comprehensive upgrade of its IT network and spread its profit among no fewer than 177 partners. The final bit of evidence was testament to the success of everything else: that the firm is “extremely well considered by so many clients right across the industry”.
Rob Smith comments:
“It is extremely satisfying, once again, to receive industry recognition for our work in the market. We are fortunate that our collaboration with leading clients offers us the opportunity to take part in some of the most innovative and challenging projects around - and that we have some of the best people to help deliver them.”
In their thirteenth year, the Building Awards are the biggest construction industry event of the year and have long been seen as the industry benchmark for recognising leading edge, innovative and best practice organisations operating within the construction industry.
This is the jewel in the crown of a series of industry awards for Davis Langdon, having won recognition for its broad range of consultancy services worldwide, including being voted – for the 14th year in succession – “Top International Construction Consultant” – in World Architecture’s annual poll. The firm was also recognised, for the third year, as one of the Sunday Times ‘Best 100 Companies to Work For’, climbing to 29th position in 2007. It has previously been five times winner of Building magazine’s Surveyor of the Year and was named Building magazine’s Project/Construction Manager of the Year in 2004 for its work on the City of Manchester Stadium.
