Read about our approach to the Carbon Reduction Commitment - The UK's new emissions trading scheme which will be introduced in 2010
The UK's new emissions trading scheme will be introduced in 2010 with organisations that are likely to be involved being invited to register. Ultimately it will require affected bodies to purchase 'Carbon allowances' to reflect the scale of the carbon dioxide emissions from their energy use.
This legislation is seen as vital if we are to achieve the UK's overall targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 - by at least 80% compared with the 1990 baseline.
