The challenge
This study was commissioned by the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) to identify the most applicable tools for measuring the sustainability performance of construction projects in the South West of England.
The output was to inform the delivery of a workshop that would help develop a common understanding of sustainability principles and key tools within SWRDA’s Integrated Design and Construction Consultants Panel.
The result
A tools matrix was produced for the workshop that could readily be evolved to provide a functional framework tool for delegates by providing a stand-alone searchable knowledge management resource for workshop delegates.
The report submitted at the end of the study was structured around the:
- Context of sustainable construction within the South West of England
- Identification of relevant sustainability tools and methods
- Recommendation of key tools
- Representation of additional sources of information
The report highlighted the need to ensure that there is a common understanding of sustainability principles across SWRDA and that there are effective tools to support this.
