Worldwide, construction went through a bruising 2008, as construction spending growth virtually ground to a halt in most developed countries.

Will this year be any better?

We foresee subdued growth of less than 1% in the global market in 2009 and prospects going forward are not that bright: construction spending in 2010 is expected to be an improvement over levels forecast in 2009, although they are still likely to be weak. No significant recovery is expected until at least 2012, although when it comes it is expected to be relatively strong.

Our report provides highlights of the current and forecast market conditions in the five main trading blocks, namely: Africa, the Americas, Asia Pacific, Australasia, Europe and the Middle East.
