This new three-story building provides much needed space and services to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, centralizing a number of services provided into one common location. Services included in the new building include several new emergency and trauma rooms, new operating suites, a number of new patient beds, and new food service facilities to serve the entire medical center campus. One unique feature of the new facility is the inclusion of an AGV (Automatic Guided Vehicle) system.
These self-contained robotic units can be programmed to carry food, medications, and other supplies from floor to floor, and can be directed to specific patient rooms. Since the pavilion was built to adjoin the existing structures, and replaces the existing main entrance, substantial demolition and utility relocation was involved.

Davis Langdon provided construction cost planning services through the design phase on this project. Our services included initial budget reconciliation, to ensure that the program and budget were aligned, and that the project was adequately funded. Following the initial budget reconciliation phase, our services included full cost checks, value engineering studies, and budget reconciliations with the Construction Manager. Davis Langdon also was closely involved in market studies to evaluate the very uncertain escalation prevailing in the healthcare market at the time, and developed market inflation data to assist the owner in continued budget reconciliation.
